This Sapphire Sparkles! Brilliant gem--a beautiful rock with just the slightest warm tint! (A slight tint of very, very light yellow or very, very light blue is normal for untreated white sapphires. Usually, the cutters will "burn" out these light tints by heating the gem--another form of thermal-enhancement.) Do you love this shape? The crown (top of the gem) is cut in the classic "emerald-cut" shape, with all its beautiful symmetry. The pavilion (bottom part of the gem) is cut similar to princess-cut. This style of cutting on the pavilion greatly increases the brilliance and liveliness of the gem because it returns the maximum light to the eye of the viewer. Imagine this gem on your hand, sparkling and brilliant! Clarity: Near Flawless / Lightly Included 1 (NFL / LI1)

Antique Diamond? (A slight tint of very, very light yellow or very, very light blue is normal for untreated white sapphires. Usually, the cutters will "burn" out these light tints by heating the gem--another form of thermal-enhancement.) Large diamonds of the late Nineteenth Century were often found in exactly this color. Do you like antique diamonds but not their cost? This gem is perfect for you! Clarity: Flawless. Certificate #CA92894302C

Another Antique Diamond? (A slight tint of very, very light yellow or very, very light blue is normal for untreated white sapphires. Usually, the cutters will "burn" out these light tints by heating the gem--another form of thermal-enhancement.) This cushion-shape and light tint remind me of big, chunky, antique diamonds--but without the big price of antique diamonds! Clarity: Flawless. This gem is cut to absolutely beautiful proportions. These proportions give maximum brilliance and life and display the gem-cutter's craft at its finest! Certificate #CA92891514C

Interesting sapphire--subtle, understated, uncommon. If you prefer very light pastel colors, you'll love this gem! Slightly visible "fingerprint" inclusions indicating Sri Lankan origin.

Clarity Grading: Sapphire clarity grades are assigned when a trained, experienced gemologist examines the gem "face-up" under controlled lighting without magnification. Sapphire clarity grades are assigned without magnification. Sapphire clarity grades are determined by an inclusion's visibility, or lack of visibility, to the naked eye. This is the procedure at the major Gem Labs. This is in sharp contrast to diamond grading where 10X magnification is required. The top sapphire clarity grade at American Gemological Laboratory is "Free of Inclusion" and the top sapphire clarity grade at Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences is "Flawless". According to the Gemological Institute of America's Revised Colored Stone Grading Lab Manual, the top clarity grade for sapphire is "Eye clean". These grades are assigned when an experienced, fully-trained gem-grader is unable to see any inclusions under ideal lighting conditions and without magnification. When examined under magnification, almost all sapphires show some natural inclusions, regardless of whether these inclusions are visible to the naked eye. So, a sapphire that is honestly graded "Flawless" or "Free of Inclusion" or "Eye-clean" almost certainly contains inclusions at some level of magnification. (As do most Flawless diamonds!) 10X is the basis for diamond clarity grading. Naked-eye is the basis for sapphire clarity grading. Diamonds and sapphires almost always show natural inclusions if the magnification is high enough. |
